About this year's carnival
Our Shared Prosperity
At 12:00 am on the 1st of December, 2024, the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, officially activated the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the Millennium Park, Calabar. The event marked the start of the highly anticipated Calabar Carnival and Festival, featuring a spectacular display of fireworks. The 40-foot Christmas tree lighting was done alongside sponsors and partners of the 32-day festival, including AriseIP, AFREXIM Bank, First Bank, Yangagames, and the European Cultural Centre, among others.
During the event, the Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Commission, Sir Gabe Onah Ph.D., highlighted that this year's carnival season will run for 32 days, starting on November 30, 2024. Packed with exciting activities, the lineup includes a boat regatta, the Voices of Calabar choir competition, and the Queen of Humanity beauty contest. Additional highlights from the schedule include Elders' Night, an exclusive event honoring individuals above 65 years, featuring a life band and a special performance by a legendary musical artist.
This year, the Carnival Calabar experience has been taken to the digital sphere. An online registration platform now allows the global Diaspora community to participate as revelers, bringing the festivities closer to a worldwide audience. Adding to the excitement, the event features a Carnival lottery, where participants can predict the winning carnival band, amplifying the sense of suspense and thrill surrounding the event.
The Cross River State Government invites everyone from across the globe to join this vibrant celebration of culture, music, and unity. Visit carnival-calabar-website and download the My Cross River App on Google Play Store and App Store to register and be part of this dynamic festival.
Get ready to explore, express, and experience the magic of the Carnival Calabar like never before.
